History of V.W.C.C.
V.W.C.C. was originally named the Victorian Women's Interdenominational Conventions (V.W.I.C.)
and was commenced in 1962 by Miss Dawn Martin.
Dawn was director of the Christian Service Centre in North Box Hill, and the convention ministry was a further outreach to women from that work.
Dawn remained president of V.W.C.C. until 1977, supported by a committee of women from various protestant church denominations.
In 1977, Dawn was succeeded as president by Marcia Bennetts, who served the Lord faithfully as president
until 2003. Noela Harmer served as president from 2003 until 2008. Our current president is Heather Gaskell.
The first day convention and many subsequent ones were held at the Belgrave Heights Convention Hall
with up to 1,000 in attendance. The messages were translated into several languages. Conventions were also held on other days in different areas of Melbourne,
and our state.
Weekend houseparties have been attended by hundreds of women in the mountains at "Marybrooke", Sherbrooke
and by the sea at "Whitehall" and Sorrento. Shiloh ranch became a popular venue for some years for a mother/daughter houseparty and a family weekend. More recently, "The Lodge"
at Belgrave Heights, and the Upper Plenty Converence Centre have become favourite venues for our ladies weekends.
Over time, the convention ministry developed as a separate entity from the Christian Service
Centre, yet maintained the same Biblical emphasis, policies and ethos that it had from the beginning in presenting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
VWCC retains the original fundamental characteristics working "By Faith", in the knowledge that "God is Faithful".
